On the day I took the reference image for "Forsyth Guitarist", It was a beautiful spring day in Savannah, Georgia. The last quarter of my college career, I had an illustration class at 5:00 in the evening in a building right on the park. I would usually arrive a couple hours early, and have a cup of coffee in Forsyth Park while I'd wait for my class to start. This particular day, a gentleman in a red ball cap was playing the guitar on a park bench, so after I got my coffee, I sat on the bench diagonally across from him to listen to him play. I didn't want to be creepy by sitting beside him or across from him, but I wanted to be close enough to hear his music. The late afternoon light filtered through the breezy tree branches hit on his hat and his guitar so beautifully, and his playing was so wonderful; I still imagine I can hear it when I look at this painting. This work of art is the encapsulation of an artist's love of another's artist's work, and a grasping attempt to preserve the fleeting beauty of public performance art.
