"Underpass" is one of my favorite mini paintings from 2021! It's also the epitome of exactly what I aim to accomplish with my artwork: immortalizing fleeting moments and capturing the beauty of the ordinary. It was created from a photograph I took on a road trip to the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, with vivid color capturing both the bright summer landscape and the wonder with which we experience beautiful scenery for the first time. The painting's point of view is that of the driver; eager to get to their destination but overtaken with the beauty of the journey. Perhaps they wonder what the landscape may have looked like before this highway was there, and weigh whether the underpass adds to or detracts from the beauty of the scene.
